Abseil Lloyds Building, London, 27 June 2024
Five of our volunteers and staff are abseiling down the iconic Lloyd's of London building.

Story

On Thursday 27th June, Robert and Aggie will abseil down the famously known Inside Out Building in London which is nearly 300ft tall.

A crazy idea, taking into consideration Aggie's fear of heights (!!), but we are supporting Jacari by abseiling Lloyd's of London building and overcoming fears.

Please help us to support the cause and raise money for Jacari!

Jacari is a small charity supporting migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking children to learn English, grow in confidence and achieve their potential.

Young people who use English as an additional language can struggle at school and need extra support to help them learn English. Jacari matches children with a volunteer who visits them every week for fun, informal tutoring sessions which help them build their confidence. Volunteers are mostly university and sixth form students and provide young people with a friend and mentor who gives them a love of learning.

Jacari provides a range of bespoke English language learning opportunities for young people, delivered by our volunteers. We match volunteers to a pupil who has English as an additional language (EAL) who they support weekly during term-time, helping them improve their English language skills and increasing their confidence. Our volunteers are mostly university and sixth-form students and provide their pupil with a mentor who makes education fun, and inspires a love of learning in their tutees. We also organise termly trips and fun activities so the young people we support can practise their English in a relaxed environment and visit local attractions.
