Story
A group of twenty HM Forces wounded, injured and sick (WIS) veterans (me),supported by dedicated staff will take on the arduous 12 day, 130km expedition to reach Mt Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,364m (17,598ft) in May 2024.
This endeavour cannot be understated for me.
Whilst serving in the RAF Regiment many years ago I was badly injured in a terrorist attack suffering multiple gunshot wounds that resulted in a below knee amputation along with other injuries. Participating in sports and keeping fit has always been my passion and has become my lifeline. This includes snowboarding, which I love. More recently I’ve had surgery on my leg to try to resolve a nerve problem that stopped me running and limited my walking. AFPST is a charity that has helped me both physically and mentally over the years. They have enabled me to participate in winter sports and given me the opportunity to engage with people who have gone through similar challenges as myself and helped me develop mental resilience. With the help and support of AFPST I was able to continue snowboarding, which has meant a lot to me both physically and mentally.I would like to try and give something back by helping to raise much needed funds for the charity. The trek to the base camp of Everest will be no easy task, and I know it will push me both physically and mentally. However, I also know how much the charity can help others, which is why I am asking for your help and support to try and achieve this.
Introducing an extraordinary endeavour that will be a feat of human power and determination as a fearless group of twenty indomitable AFPST athletes and dedicated staff take on an arduous expedition to conquer the renowned Everest Base Camp in May 24. The magnitude of this endeavor cannot be understated, as it will test their physical and mental strength to the very core. But their unwavering mission transcends personal achievements and aspires to raise significant fund, to ensure AFPST continues to empower our deserving athletes and propel them forward.
Thank you.
