Story

It's a tale as old as time: 40-something man takes up jogging in lockdown.

You've doubtless been inundated with requests to sponsor many kindred spirits as they huff and puff around the streets of east London in too-expensive running gear, but if you can spare a small donation for this one, your money will go further than just helping me fight my middle aged spread.

Laura and I lost our mums to cancer within five years of each other, and we miss them both greatly.

If you live in Exeter, Mid or East Devon, Hospiscare is your local adult hospice charity. Should you or a loved one need care for any type of terminal illness, their professional team of doctors and nurses are there to help.

The fantastic people at Searle House hospice in Exeter do incredible work caring for people at the end of their lives. They looked after our mums - and us - during their final days, and I've long wanted to try and contribute something to the good work they do.

I’ve never run a half marathon - until a couple months ago I’d never run 10k - but I like to have a goal to work towards, and I said last year I’d put myself in for the Hackney Half, so I’m going to give it a go.

Wish me luck, and thanks in advance for anything you can contribute.
