Story
We're raising money for George's Trust, an inspirational local youth charity in the Romsey-Winchester-Southampton area.
Adrian and Steve have been friends for almost 50 years and will be walking the 100-mile long South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne over the first week in September.
George's Trust seeks to raise funds for teenage cancer research and facilities in the University Hospital Southampton as well as supporting local young people and youth organisations.
George was 17 when he died unexpectedly from a rare teenage cancer and this tragic event affected many lives in Romsey and further afield. As a result, and after many donations from the public, his family set up George’s Trust in 2009. George is Adrian's nephew and Steve knew him well being a life-long family friend.
Since 2009 the Trust has raised a quarter of million pounds, the majority of which has been donated to the Teenage Cancer Unit in the Hospital to assist them in maintaining and developing their treatment facilities. Recently the Trust donated £50,000 towards the pioneering work in Immunotherapy Research at the University, which is the leading new treatment in the fight against cancer. Currently our objective is to provide funds towards the refurbishment of the Teenage Cancer Unit and the creation of a new isolation ward within it.
The Trust also has a small grant scheme for young people and youth organisations to apply for funds for projects or any activity that will help them develop and grow as individuals.
The Trust is purely volunteer-led with no employed staff so all the funds raised go direct to helping young people.
Thank you so much for your support.
