Please support our Adapted Biathlon Event, raising money for the Adapted Cycling Group.

The Adapted Cycling Group is a new neurorehabilitation intervention designed to support those who have experienced an Acquired Brain Injury. The group helps brain injury survivors address and manage difficulties such as poor balance, limb weakness, low mood, anxiety, social isolation, and confidence.

“Since my stroke this is probably one of the best things I’ve done”

Family members and carers also benefit from attending the group, as it helps build a support network, meet other families that are experiencing similar difficulties, and combat the effects of social isolation that come with caring for someone with a brain injury.

“Normally I don’t meet anybody else with these similar experiences, it’s very isolating. To be able to see others coping, helps me go through the same thing”

To raise money to support this group, we will be hosting an Adaptive Biathlon at Halo Leisure Centre (Holmer Rd, Hereford HR4 9UD) on 23rd August 2024. You can choose to walk, run, or cycle:

1km

5km

10km

15km

All money raised will go back into the group, such as buying new adapted bikes, purchasing equipment, or hiring the cycling track at Halo. Thank you for your support.

FAQ

What if I can only run, walk, or cycle a short distance?

Everyone is invited to come and join in on the day, regardless of whether you are hoping to complete 1 or 15km. Every kilometre counts!

How do I donate money?

We kindly ask that all money raised be paid directly to the dedicated Just Giving page. We cannot accept cash or cheques.

What do I need to bring with me on the day?

Please bring suitable shoes and clothes for your chosen activity (e.g. suitable running shoes for use on the athletics track, a waterproof coat, etc.).

What facilities are there on the day?

There will be a hot/cold drinks station, ice-cream truck, and a food van on site for refreshments. Toilets are available on site.

Can anyone come on the day?

This event is a ticketed event for brain ijury survivors, their families, and their friends. Clinicians working with brain injury survivors are also welcome to attend. Please ensure everyone who intends to attend has a valid ticket, available here: https://allevents.in/hereford/abi-warrior-adaptive-biathlon-event/80007534374626?ref=event-dashboard. While there is no cost for the tickets, it is important to register as we can only accommodate a certain number of people on the day.

What if I don’t have a bike?

A small selection of helmets, bikes, and adapted trikes will be available to use on the day.

I have a disability that may make it challenging for me to use a bike or adapted trike, will there be any support for me?

We encourage everyone to come and get involved. However, it is your responsibility to make sure your needs are met. We understand that everyone’s individual needs may vary and so we welcome family, friends, and carers who would like to come along and support you with this on the day.

What happens if I hurt myself on the day?

Whilst we will take reasonable measures to help keep you safe on the day, it is up to you to ensure your own safety. We encourage all attendees to be mindful of the track and weather conditions, the condition and suitability of any bike you use, as well as your levels of fatigue and medical needs. We also encourage all attendees to wear a helmet whilst using a bike or adapted trike. Use of the facilities at Halo, including the athletics track and cycling track, are done so under Halo’s terms and conditions.
