Trigger warning: Mentions of Self Harm
On new years day my little sister Lucy lost her battle with mental health. I have no words that can express quite how amazing Lucy was. Even in her lowest moments she looked out for others so much and put everyone ahead of herself. She deserved so much better. Lucy tried so hard to recover, asked for all the help and ultimately wanted to stay safe. Last year there was a point where we were in minor injuries and A and E a couple of times a week for self harm and Lucy was told by mental health services that she didn't meet the thresholds and it was not serious enough for proper help. It took a suicide attempt in August for the services to listen and get her help but even then it was a rocky path, care was inconsistent and there wasn't clear plans for recovery. This is completely unacceptable and proper mental health support should be available to anyone who asks for it. I am doing this half marathon in the hope of helping anyone in the position Lucy was because no one should be told that they are not bad enough to need help.
