Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page and for helping me to raise money for the Royal Society for Blind Children.
As some of you may know, my little boy Albie, was born on 1 October 2023 and diagnosed with a very rare eye condition called Lebers Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) at only 4 months old which causes him to be blind. I first started noticing Albie’s eyes at around 3-4 weeks old but I tried to not worry as they say 6-8 weeks is when a baby will usually starts to track objects and look at you. Albie was 8 weeks old and we were at our routine GP check where the GP noticed Albie’s eyes were not where we would expect for 8 weeks old. Fast forward to Albie turning 4 months and many hospital and eye specialist appointments in between, we had a diagnosis for Albie. We have undergone genetic testing for Albie and us as parents to clarify Albie’s condition and how this has happened to him.
We never expected this to be how our little boy would grow up and live his life. We had plans and dreams for Albie, all of which are still in his reach but just with a little more guidance. That’s where the RSBC will be truly amazing for us and give Albie opportunities we didn’t think were possible anymore. With RSBC supporting us, we will give Albie the life we dreamt of and there is no limits to what he will achieve.
As you can imagine, our emotions over the last 6 months have been all over the place. From starting the specialist appointments, to waiting for results, receiving results which have never gone the way we hoped to trying to accept his diagnosis. This is why I’ve chosen to run the 2025 London Marathon so I can channel all my emotions into a worthy cause and raise money for a charity that will be a big part of our lives and that I will always be thankful for.
RSBC help blind children reach their full potential. They work with families to help provide the best possible environment for their child to grow and thrive. They also help blind children to develop their confidence and independence through to taking part in activities and building amazing lifetime friendships.
Albie is my inspiration now and there is nothing I will not do for him so please can I ask you to support me and donate to RSBC, if you can, and help every single blind child reach their full potential, believe in themselves and live a fulfilling life.
