A Peal of Pudsey at Pudsey for Pudsey Bear and BBC Children in Need
A team of 8 ringers from across the North of England will be ringing the church bells non-stop for 3 hours from 10.30am on Friday 15th November 2024 at the parish church of St Lawrence & St Paul in Pudsey, Yorkshire in the church's 200th anniversary year!
We will ring a method (bellringing music that is a pattern of interweaving paths for the bells to change the sequence they sound) called "Pudsey Surprise Major"
A peal is quite a challenge and takes a lot of skill, teamwork, concentration and a degree of physical endurance to complete. The aim is to ring it without any mistakes and well struck (evenly spaced).
A peal involves 5000 or more unique 'changes' (sequences of the 8 bells) without repeating any sequence until the peal completes with the bells in 'rounds' (1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8), the same sequence as the start of the peal.
It will be the first time at least two of the band have rung Pudsey Surprise Major to a peal... wish us luck, and please give generously so that together we can support children and young people across the UK through BBC Children in Need and all their fantastic projects across the nation.
