Story
In May 2024 I will be running the Edinburgh marathon, my amazing dad will be running the half and the lovely kath will be running the 10k - all to raise money for BEAT.
Beat are a charity that support people living with eating disorders, as well as their family and friends. It is a charity that is particularly close to my heart, as not only do I know people who have eating disorders, but I myself have been battling with an eating disorder for over 4 years.
Over the past year, my eating disorder worsened to the point where I should’ve been hospitalised. I could no longer safely play rugby, I couldn’t concentrate on my degree and I avoided social events.
Things worsened until I finally realised I didn’t want to live that way anymore… so I started recovery.
Recovering from an eating disorder is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, and whilst it gets easier with time, that voice is still there, I’m just a lot better at fighting it.
I can now safely say I am the strongest, both physically and mentally, that I have ever been and I’m finally becoming my crazy, chatty, happy self again.
I also need to give credit to my rugby girls, housemates and my family. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them not a day goes by where I’m not grateful for their support.
Having an eating disorder is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. They are all-consuming and the most deadly mental health condition there is. I want to take on this challenge to raise awareness (and hopefully some money too) for those like myself, so that they can get the help they need to get well, fight that voice and live their lives to the absolute fullest!
