RAB100 - Running 100miles Around Bedfordshire

Paul Lockyer is raising money for Embrace (Bedford and District)

Running 100miles Around Bedfordshire · 3 September 2026

We empower lives through adaptable and inclusive support, championing individual needs, enabling autonomy within a responsive and nurturing environment and ensuring no family member is left behind. Inclusivity is not just a value but a guiding principle.

Story

Are you able to help a small but mighty charity dedicated to families and young people living with complex disabilities?

This September, the chair of trustees will undertake an extraordinary personal marathon challenge: running 100 miles solo, clockwise around Bedfordshire, from 3rd to 6th September. Starting in Podington in the northeast, he will cover more than a marathon each day through Biggleswade, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Woburn, and finish with one final effort at the Bedford Running Festival.

Why help? An old bloke running a long way around our beautiful county is a bit daft and maybe not to be encouraged! He’s doing it to raise funds needed more than ever by Embrace. Families living with complex disabilities rely on charity support. Government and local authority support is not enough, especially during school holiday periods when parents and carers need respite more than ever.

Funding has been challenging for a number of years; in 2026 the challenge is even tougher. Sadly, other similar local charities have reluctantly cancelled their offers this summer to the dismay of many parents and carers. Embrace are trying everything to maintain their services and meet as much of the increased demand for those in our community who need it. Grants, community fundraising and business sponsorship are vital. Anything you can do to help will make a huge difference.
