Story
In September 2023 I suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of just 22. My heart stopped for 4 minutes. I was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome, a rare heart condition, but I can now live life pretty much as normal.
The truth is I was immensely lucky to survive given less than 10% of people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. However, every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. Over 624 young people every year.
624 reasons why I want to do my part to help.
So I have decided to thru-hike Te Araroa, a 3000km (1864 miles) trail that spans from one end of New Zealand to the other, to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and to help fund heart screenings for young people across the UK.
If me walking 3000km in one go can help raise the money to diagnose one young person with a heart condition and potentially save a life, it will be worth doing a thousand times over.
Every penny donated gets us closer to funding another heart screening and reaching that goal.
