Story

Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page supporting the MND Association.

We are walking to raise awareness of MND but also we are walking in memory of George Melling and Barry Ollerton.

George Melling

George Melling, was diagnosed in early 2021 and passed April 2022 after a brave battle against the devastating disease.

George captained Longridge Town and used to be on the books of Blackpool FC and Morecombe and played for many other teams including Longridge Town, Leyland Town, Kendal Town, Coppull and Colne, to name a few.

He was an inspirational football and well know and liked throughout the football community.

Father-of-three George Melling, was married to Nicci who said after his passing, "He was a fantastic father, a terrible dancer, the life and soul of the party and I'm so very proud to call him my husband."

George’s influence and legacy is still felt with the football and MNDA Community to this day.

Barry ‘Bert’ Ollerton

Barry ‘Bert’ Ollerton was a well-known character around Longridge, working for SWC for many years and a regular in Wilfrid’s Club.

Bert was diagnosed with MND in 2012 and after a long battle with the disease passed at the age of 50 in in 2020, leaving his wife, Simone and two young daughters, Lauren and Grace.

There is no apparent reason why he contracted the disease, just bad luck.

Bert is fondly remembered by family and friends.

We are walking in memory of Bert and George to raise money to support those suffering with MND. Living with MND is extremely difficult and the money raised will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association to support those people suffering with MND and their families. Those living with MND require constant care and the funds raised will support families in providing items such as over bed tables, specialist tablets devices to help with communication, specialist wheelchairs, nursing support and alterations to accommodation to make life a little easier.

The MND Association focus on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. By sponsoring me your money will help people affected by Motor Neurone Disease. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to the MND Association. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure, your details are safe - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Thank you again
