Story
THE CHALLENGE:
As a team, we will carry the 'infamous' 50kg sand filled Beer Cask, from Blyth beach down the coast to Tynemouth's Fiddlers Green Sculpture. (10.5 miles)
THE STORY:
The man the legend Andrew Mason. A physical 'unit', a lover of life and a thoroughly decent bloke, in his all too short time with us, did a massive amount for others - from building a play area in a Kenyan orphanage, to rowing round the UK for charity. He also decided to run 100 miles in five days with the 50kg Beer Cask on his own - again, for charity.
Despite all his strength of character and physically - in 2016, Andrew was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma which is cancer of the bone marrow. The care and support he received from his specialist team at the Freeman in Newcastle was, in short, outstanding.
THE CHARITIES:
The Mason family have formed The Spirit Level Foundation, which through challenges, raise money to support other charities and people whom have/are being effected by cancer.
The money raised in this event will go to Bright Red. Bright Red funded specialist nurses who were Andrews main point of contact - as they were for his family. Mere words can't describe how much help, advice and support they can provide to people like Andrew and those around them.
Having lost Andrew in 2020. Bright Red’s work goes on, and not possible without your help.
