Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and I would be extremely grateful if you could donate whatever you can afford - and here’s why…
On 20 June 2024, the Summer Solstice, I will run the width of County Galway, from east to west, 172K in 1 day, in aid of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
My father has late stage dementia. With this condition there is very little that can be done other than try to keep him happy and comfortable and make the most of small moments before things deteriorate any further... This has left me and my family feeling somewhat helpless. So, I feel the need to do something.
Having dealt with various agencies over the past 7+ years I have seen how important they are in supporting patients and families, but also how they could be so much more effective. So I want to help by supporting them. Having run several marathons before (42.2km), I decided to dedicate a run to my Dad.
On Thursday, 20th June 2024 (Summer Solstice), I will run the length of County Galway, from the River Shannon to the Atlantic Ocean, in 24 hours. This is a distance of 172K. To put it in context: this is just over 4 Marathons in length or almost the distance from Galway City to Dublin City (200km). I will be running this solo with the aim of raising as much funds for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland as possible, whilst also raising awareness about the condition, its causes and how in many cases it can be prevented. The furthest I’ve ever run in one go is 42.2km, so it will take me every day of the next 10 months to train for this challenge. I will also be using this training period to raise funds and awareness.
Thank you,
Eoin.
