Story
On the 6th of July a group of us will be attempting the 24hr Three Peaks Challenge starting with Ben Nevis 🏴 moving to Scafell Pike 🏴 and finishing with Snowdon 🏴. We’re doing this to raise money for Andy’s Mans Club and hopefully raise awareness for Men’s mental health.
Andy’s Man’s Club is a male suicide prevention charity who offer free to attend peer to peer support groups across the UK and online while trying to break down the stigma around men’s mental health.
As of 2022 the percentage of male deaths caused by suicide is 77% and is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50. In a time when many societal issues are being addressed I feel that men’s mental health isn’t getting the attention it should be and there is still a stigma around men talking. This is causing men to continue to suffer in silence shown in the 2% rise in male suicide since 2020 meaning 134 more men took their own lives. This figure should be on the decline when we look at how society has been changing in recent times. I’d like to make the claim that everyone reading this probably knows at least 1 man that’s struggled mentally and kept it to themselves even if it’s not a major struggle and they got through it the fact that they’ve chose to keep it to themselves is a problem which needs to be resolved.
