Story
On July 2nd, we are undertaking the challenge of walking the Three Peaks. This involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours. The three mountains are Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1345m), Snowdon, in Wales (1085m) and Scafell Pike, in England (978m).
The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) - twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance. The total driving distance is 462 miles - ALOT!!!
We wanted to use this opportunity to raise money for a worthwhile cause and have chosen The Sebastian Hunter Memorial Trust. 'Seb's' is a charity set up in 2001 in memory of Sebastian Hunter, who sadly took his own life aged just 18 years. Seb was Laura's brother, so it is a cause very close to home.
The charity reaches out to the poor and marginalised in Southern India. They strive to provide equal access to education, basic health and livelihood for all by actively engaging with individuals, society and government for effective changes through innovative approaches. They believe that through education and access to healthcare and other opportunities mental health challenges can be massively improved.
Over the past 23 years Seb's have built countless schools in impoverished areas and ensured many 1000's of children an education who would otherwise have had none. Many of these children have gone on to become successful nurses, doctors and engineers and have enabled the next generations to flourish. For more on their work visit www.sebsschool.org
