Story
On 4th July 2026, I’ll be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.
Six years ago, my mum was diagnosed with dementia at just 55 years old. Four years later, my nan received the same diagnosis. We sadly lost her late last year.
Dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed - it impacts entire families. I often think about my grandad, who has had to watch both his wife and daughter face this illness. The strength, patience and love shown by carers and families often goes unseen, yet they carry so much of the burden every single day.
Through this challenge, I want to support the Alzheimer’s Society and the incredible work they do for people living with dementia and the families who care for them. Their research, support services and awareness work are vital if we’re going to improve the lives of those affected.
Watching the impact of this disease has changed the way I think about health, time and what really matters in life. We spend so much of our lives indoors, looking at screens, worrying about tomorrow and taking our health for granted. Yet our ability to move, explore and experience the world is something many people lose far sooner than they should.
If this challenge can raise money for a fantastic cause, encourage even one person to learn more about dementia, or inspire someone to take better care of their own health, then every step will be worthwhile.
None of us one of us know what the future holds. It’s about making the most of our health and opportunities along the way and not taking life for granted.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any donation, no matter the amount, will be hugely appreciated.
