Story
On Sunday August 13th 2023, we completed 24hours of punchbag work, at Bell's Gym in Altrincham, raising vital awareness for Mentell, a men's mental health charity.
Mentell is a national charity that provides safe and confidential spaces for men aged 18+ to talk, free from advice and judgment
The charity has played a huge role in my wellbeing since my eldest son George took his own life in 2021.
His younger bother Will joined me, along with Steve Bell, Ryan Oliver and Matt Percy from the gym.
The ONS show figures from 2021 of 5,583 people losing their life to suicide in England and Wales alone. 6,556 people lost their lives to suicide in Great Britain during 2021.
We are hoped to achieve 5,583 combined minutes of boxing training on punchbags, in 24hours. If we passed it the next target was 6,556!
The final figures were -
12,541 minutes of bag work and boxing exercise completed in 24 hours
4,180 rounds done by 156 people.
This is a massive achievement and has helped to raise a huge amount of awareness for Mentell and what they do.
This page will say open until October 27th, the anniversary of George's death.
Below are just some of the costs towards running a Mentell circle.
£5 is the cost to get one man to circle.
£50 is the cost of keeping an online circle running for a month.
£250 is the cost to train a Mentell facilitator.
