Story
The BRA charity, which was established in 2005, is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary. It has been an integral part of this service and has been instrumental in its development. It has supported our patients with information evenings, raised funds for equipment and propagated the benefits of microsurgical breast reconstruction. The charity has supported the establishment of the Essex wide risk reducing mastectomy team, the nipple tattoo service and provision of post operative garments. We are extremely grateful to our patients who have supported this charity through the past two decades.
The breast reconstruction service at the St. Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns has come a long way during the past two decades. The centre has grown along with the ever-increasing demand for microsurgical breast reconstruction. This is a testament to the tireless work of the team of nurses, doctors, and administration staff. Although this is resource intensive surgery, it provides for a durable and most natural form of reconstruction. In 2002, this service provided ten microsurgical breast reconstructions, while today we routinely undertake three hundred every year.
To celebrate this milestone, we will be holding a number of events during the year, including a cake sale, barn dance and our annual ladies lunch. Details of each event will be added to the gallery and the updates on this page.
Thank you for supporting BRA a breast reconstruction awareness charity within Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity. Your support and donations will make a valuable difference to the lives of patients and staff at our hospitals.
