We tackle poverty with practical assistance to fight disadvantage

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Walter and myself have just finished the sponsored bike ride (at 2.15pm) - he's feeling a little whacked so I thought I'd let you know how things went earlier day.

It started with a rather embarrassing 'thumbs up' from me (i.e dad) and then off we both went (view the gallery by clicking on the gallery icon - top right) passing some interesting places - bridges and locks plus some lovely houses and apartments.

Perhaps the most bizarre moment came around Apsley Lock, if you look carefully at the picture under the bridge there is a man playing a wind instrument. He's all by himself, playing away and the sound was quite melodic - it was truly surreal.

About 3 miles later we squeezed past a guy reversing his car on a very wide part of the towpath. Unfortunately Walter had a little 'bump' with the car damaging his bike's front mudguard and rear bits. The driver was mad with me and quite threatening; still good fortune was on our side....the driver-man later used his own pliers and carefully removed the nut from Walter's front wheel in order to release the mudguard - this allowed us to continue on our quest!

Otherwise the journey was uneventful - we had a snack at Apsley Lock and then stopped off at the mid-point (The Mill in Berkhamsted) for a cuppa/bite to eat.

Coming home was surprisingly quick, the sun now shone on occasion so we were warmer too. Paul (President of Holy Rood SVP) was there to congratulate Walter and shake his hand.

All this was done to raise funds for the SVP Soup Kitchen in Central London.

The Soup Kitchen offers vital support to homeless men and women every week - food and drink plus a chance for folk to catch up and talk.
