Story
Matilda Pritchard dreams of a world without rubbish. Regularly picking up litter in her local Pudsey parks, she finds joy in seeing a clean space after her efforts, and Matilda’s dedication didn’t go unnoticed. In 2023, she was over the moon to receive a Blue Peter green badge for her efforts.
Sadly, on April 3rd, 2024, Matilda passed away peacefully in her sleep, from an undiagnosed heart condition called arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) which affects 1 in 1,000[1] people, a condition which Matilda showed no symptoms of having until she tragically passed away in her sleep.
The family originally created this page to focus their grief and the original target of £11,213 represented Matilda’s birthday, 11/02/13, honouring the 11 years of laughter, silliness and pure kindness that will be cherished by her friends and family for eternity.
The target was hit within two weeks, a truly amazing achievement which all the family are so thankful for. After discussing the ways in which the money could be best utilised, Keep Britain Tidy suggested the Eco-Schools program, which provides support to empower young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond.
Matilda’s legacy will focus on the ‘Litter’ section of this project and the money raised will help educate and inspire a whole new generation of children to hopefully be as passionate about the environment and a World without rubbish as she was.
We are now looking to raise £42,000 to fund five years of sponsorship of this fantastic cause, this represents the years at secondary school Matilda should have experienced.
