Hyrox: Maastricht 2024 · 20 January 2024

Huntington's disease is a gradually progressive and devastating neurological disease affecting movement, learning, thinking and emotions. Currently there is no cure. Help support the University's research to find new treatments and therapies.

Story

On the 24th of July, my siblings and I lost our Mum after 15 years of fighting against Huntington’s disease. This cruel disease targets the brain, and in doing so, strips a person of their abilities to walk, talk, move their limbs and by the end, even eat and breathe.

My Mum’s passing is a recent event, and Olly Gittoes and I had already planned to do this Hyrox competition. Whilst it is slightly late notice getting the fundraising out there, I would like to make this the start of a series of fundraising events I do in order to raise awareness and money for Huntington’s disease charities, whilst also helping us keep my Mum’s spirit alive.

It is quite a rare disease with an estimated 6,000 people living with it in the UK. As well, any child of a parent with the disease also has a 50% chance of developing Huntington's. Hopefully, with our support, we can go some way towards helping find a cure or treatment to help those currently living with the disease or those that might be growing into it.
