Story

St Werburgh’s Church 150-Year Anniversary Appeal for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd

A Beacon of Light in Our Community

In 2025, St Werburgh’s Church, Chester, proudly celebrates 150 years of faith, community, and service. To mark this milestone, we are launching a special fundraising appeal in support of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd—a charity that provides vital care and support for individuals with life-limiting illnesses.

Our Goal: £15,000

To honour our 150-year legacy, we aim to raise £100 for every year of our church’s history, reaching a total of £15,000.

Why the Hospice of the Good Shepherd?

The Hospice provides compassionate, specialist care to those in need, offering support to patients and their families during the most difficult of times. Their work embodies our anniversary theme: "Lighthouse – A Beacon of Light." Just as a lighthouse offers guidance and safety, the Hospice shines a light in life’s darkest moments, ensuring no one faces their journey alone.

How Your Support Helps

Every donation makes a meaningful difference to those in need:

💖 £5 provides a memory book for a child to remember a loved one.

🍽️ £15 will provide meals for an in-patient for one day.

🩺 £50 pays for a physiotherapy session to support a patient’s comfort and mobility.

Join Us in a Year of Celebration & Giving

Throughout the year, St Werburgh’s will host a variety of events to celebrate this historic milestone, which will welcome parishioners, members of the community, and visitors. These will include, amongst others:

- Social Celebration Event

- Guided Walks

- Easter Wreath Making Event

- Music events

- Pilgrimage

- Celebration of cultures Events, etc.

Alongside these, we will also produce and sell items to increase our contribution. Some of these include:

- Prayer Book – A collection of cherished prayers.

- Recipe Book – A collection of cherished family recipes contributed by our community.

- St Werburgh’s in Lego – A miniature replica of our church made of Lego-style bricks!

Parishioners will also have the chance to ‘Buy a Brick’ towards a larger Lego-style replica, which will be constructed and displayed in the church as a lasting tribute to this milestone.
