Story

1 Mad Idea

On Wednesday 26th June 2024 Ruth Thompson will be setting off on her National 3 Peaks challenge with a twist. She will start in Scotland climbing Ben Nevis before getting on her bike to cycle to the Lakes to climb Scafell Pike then back on her bike to get to Wales for the final climb up Snowdon.

2 Sisters

Ruth’s sister Cath was diagnosed with MND 10 years ago and since her diagnosis they have completed a number of challenges together for the MND Association. Ruth and Cath will complete the final peak together alongside a team of family and friends.

3 Peaks

This national challenge wasn’t enough for these two and they had to create a twist. Some of the first challenges they did together were cycling on a tandem bicycle completing the Coast to Coast route and Ride London. The cycling element is back in this challenge.

4 MND

Cath is a fundraiser, local group member and campaigner for the MND Association and is close to raising £100,000. This challenge is another push to reach this incredible total. All funds raised will be split between MND research and Cath’s local group - the Hambleton and Richmondshire Group.

A target of £1326 has been chosen as the challenge could see Ruth clock up close to 1326 km. 1326 is also Rob Burrow’s Heritage Number and it only seemed fitting to include this special number in memory of Rob and as a thank you for all he and his family have done for the MND community. In 2022 Cath won the Rob Burrow Award in recognition of her fundraising efforts. Cath has also contributed to many events with Rob, Leeds Rhinos and Kevin Sinfield.

Thank you for reading and your support with this challenge. Together we will keep fighting and banging the drum for MND 🥁 🧡💙
