Story
100km Continuous Jurassic Coast Ultra
Two parents of St Mark’s are walking 100km continuously across the Jurassic Coast, fundraising for the school our children attend. The school provides a fantastic education and has invested in the outdoor provision to further expand what can be offered to all students.
Mike is a parent at the school, Aidan is also a parent at the school and the Chair of Governors. We are both a little addicted to walking.
It might seem we are mad, walking 100km in one continuous attempt along the Jurassic Cost. We expect this challenge will take around 24 hours to complete, maybe longer as some of the hills are like mini mountains! The elevation is the equivalent of walking up the stairs in your house about a 1,000 times in (hopefully) one day.
Having completed 34km and 42km along the Jurassic Coast we though this step up would be 'easy'! We've also completed a few 50km walks, both ending with mud and tears (& injury!). What could go wrong, we'll let you know!!
The Friends of St Mark's (FOSM) is our PTA, through their fundraising the school has been able to afford new laptops, a farm, a fully equipped Year R play area and new large scale play equipment around the school. The school also expanded this to include a Forest School and Farm.
Fundraising for 2024 will help support projects including a Forest School Lodge and further enhancements that make the school a great place to learn. There is a huge focus on inclusion, diversity and pupil mental health & wellbeing; your fundraising will help support these activities through FOSM.
We both know how important the school is to our children and their friends, we couldn't think of a charity that would have a more immediate impact on our local community. This school is a vital community asset and we hope our desire to walk 100km demonstrates this!
