Story
Support us on our mission to walk 100km over 24 hours to find a cure for EB.
As you may know, our dear friends Alex and Natasha Hersham gave birth to a beautiful baby boy in April who was born with Epidermolysis Bullosa (the ‘Butterfly Disease.’)
Epidermolysis Bullosa is a progressive, debilitating and extremely painful genetic skin condition which causes internal and external blisters at the slightest friction. In its most serious form, it causes wounds that are like having very severe burns, eventually leading to skin cancer.
EB has an absolutely devastating impact on the patient’s physical and mental wellbeing, as well as causing endless stress and uncertainty for both parents and child.
As Alex and Natasha’s closest friends and family members, we want to do everything we can to support Abe as well as the ~15,000 other people living with Dystrophic EB, the particular variant that Abe was born with.
Alex has been working tirelessly on finding a cure since Abe’s birth, and is partnering with Cure EB to find effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for this devastating disease.
What we’re doing:
Our merry band of misfits (Alex & Tash’s closest friends & family) will endeavour to walk 100km over 24 hours, traversing England’s coastline, through day & night, rain or shine. Preparation has already begun to turn a bunch of office sitters & professional recliners into a group of hardened adventurers capable of walking the equivalent of 2.5marathons non-stop in a day.
When: March 16/17th
What: 24-hour walk from Saturday am to Sunday am
Where: Brighton to Chicester
By undertaking this journey together, we hope to not only raise awareness but also crucial funds to support those living with EB. Every step taken during this 100km walk is a symbol of resilience, echoing the daily struggles faced by those battling EB. Our hope is that the collective impact reaches far beyond the distance covered.
We need your help on this journey and every little helps so please give generously. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to research.
