A bit about the Osborne Trust...
The Osborne Trust is an amazing charity providing practical and emotional support for children under 16 years old during a parent's cancer treatment.
The Trust was launched in 2014 by Emma Osborne after her cancer diagnosis aged 36 years. The Trust was started from the families own experience of how they dealt with the situation, what worked and what they found lacking in terms of family support. Emma’s 2 children’s (aged 7 and 4 when Mum was diagnosed) experiences are the driving force of the Trust’s work.
Why it is special to us...
At the age of 34 our beautiful friend Sarah was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Despite her illness, Sarah turned a very difficult situation into a positive one by sharing her story and reaching out to help others who were also facing such troubling times. One of the first things she did was to write a book, 'Mummy's got a poorly' to help support her gorgeous girls.
Sarah was told about the Osborne Trust by her breast care nurse and she 'instantly connected with Emma's story.' The girls received cinema tickets, colouring books and an Ozzy elephant teddy and were so delighted. Sarah was so grateful and soon realised how much she wanted to help and support Emma and her wonderful charity. They soon became good friends and Sarah became an ambassador for the trust. She donated the proceeds from her book sales and also raised funds from organising fundraisers, such as 'Sarah's advent hats' where she wore a different festive hat each day leading up to Christmas. Sarah always tried to turn a negative into a positive!
Sadly, Sarah died last October which has left a huge hole in the lives of her girls, family and friends and the many people that came to know her. She was so dedicated in supporting the Osborne Trust and we really want to do something in her memory for something she cared so much about.
Sarah always tried to make raising money fun and in true Sarah style that is what we are going to do by doing this Zumbathon. We want you to enjoy it, have fun, but also remember that we are raising funds for a wonderful charity.
Miss you Westy
