About Ongar United Reformed Church Livingstone Hall & Taylor Gallery
Ongar United Reformed Church was formed in 1662.
The current hall was built in 1919, which now needs modernisation for the current generation, so in 2019 we are having the hall completely renovated.
We are honoured by having two great influential people having been part of our church fellowship. The great explorer David Livingstone trained and lived here before going to Africa and Jane Taylor who was daughter of Rev. Issac Taylor, Minister of this church, Jane is the famous author of 'Twinkle.Twinkle. Little Star' She is buried at the church along side her parents.
It is to these two people, David Livingstone and Jane Taylor that we are creating a gallery/small museum in their honour to share with the community. The New Hall will be called the Livingstone Hall and the Gallery will be called The Taylor Gallery. There will be new facility's including a lift. There will be a small Cafe to enjoy refreshments and a warm welcome.
Our current groups will continue in outreach to the whole community of Ongar and further afield.
The Ongar Millennium History Society will also be contributing with artefacts of Ongar past.
Having almost met our fundraising target, we ask if anyone would like to help us with this big transformation as we share our history with generations to come, we will be very encouraged by any donation, large or small.
