Story
Not a day goes by where I don't think of my dad in some way or another, his life was tragically cut short aged 53 after he committed suicide. Each time I make one of these pages up I say those who were closest to him would never fully recover from the devastation caused by both his death and the way in which it happened.
Depression wears many masks, I know my dad was a victim of this treatable illness and nobody truly knew the anguish he was suffering until it was to late.
Male suicide statistics are twice as high as women's and personally put this down to blokes not feeling able to "open up" and being told to "man up" instead of being encouraged to seek the help that IS available.
The reason I am fundraising is to highlight depression, whether it's your everyday blues or something more serious, I think most people suffer to some degree throughout their lives and more needs to be done to take the stigmatism away, especially to men.
This year I am going solo and this is what the challenge organizers have to say on this 12 hour event.
This exciting challenge will have you cycling 17km, trekking 15km and kayaking 4km in a mere 12 hour day. Snowdonia National Park is home to some of the most rugged and challenging peaks in Britain giving it its reputation as one of the best natural adventure play grounds in the U.K. This is a challenging trek both mentally and physically with a long and gruelling day, testing your entire muscle range. You will enjoy stunning views of the National Park, and a fantastic sense of achievement when you complete the trek
So dig deep and lets help raise funds for those who need help, it may just save a life.
