Over the next 12 weeks I'll be swimming the equivalent of the English Channel, 22 miles, at my local pool to raise money for people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury.

Having broken my foot in August I decided to devote the time I would normally spend running to learning to swim properly. Although I love being near the water I've always been afraid of having my head underwater. 3 weeks ago I couldn't swim a length of a 25 metre pool. Now I find myself having to swim 118 lengths per week to meet my target of 1416 lengths by 7th December. This is definitely the hardest challenge I've ever faced!

Having had my mobility impaired for the last 5 weeks has shown me how difficult and frustrating even the simple things in life can be. I will regain full mobility in the very near future; those who have suffered spinal injuries have to face a very different reality. Every eight hours someone is paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury. It can happen to anyone at any time, and there is currently no cure. Every pound that I raise means that Aspire can provide practical help to a spinal injured person, allowing them to live a more independent life, so please donate as much as you can and help make a difference.
