Story
I never met my father- in-law James Myatt as he died in 1983. However he was a larger than life character who made an enormous difference to many young people in the sailing world. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
He led many sail training expeditions including the first STA race across the Atlantic in 1964. He helped to start the crew interchange programme with Polish and Russian crews (no mean feat as it was during the cold war). He worked for the British Army for many years and was involved in youth and leadership training, and served in many countries including Germany, Kenya, Palestine and Aden (The Yemen). He was special advisor to the newly formed Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. He put energy, enthusiasm and dedication into everything he did, from parachuting to being a member of the Army Bobsleigh Team and Cresta Run, as well as being a motorcycle champion. If I can run the marathon with half the energy he put into his short life and break 4hrs I'll be happy.
His family set up The James Myatt Trust after he died, to help disadvantage young people experience sail training sea voyages. In order that they might see new places, learn to take responsibility and develop skills and confidence. Any donation will be very much appreciated. Thanks Nick.
