Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As most of you know, I am committed to ongoing training and development of young people both in my career and in my spare time. This is the main reason why I am a keen scout leader and that I dedicate so much of my time to the ongoing training and development of future generations. As such, I firmly believe that scouting can challenge our young people to go above and beyond what they believe that they are capable of, allowing them to achieve things that they never thought possible.
One of the most challenging awards in Scouting for our young people is The Explorer Belt, this is a 10 day expedition in a foreign country, with an a minimum travelling time of 50 hours (in this case an average of 10km per day) whilst completing 1 major and 10 minor challenges, on a very small budget. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for these young people and quite a serious challenge.
I’m joining a team of amazing volunteers to take 50ish young people from all over Scotland, whom otherwise may not get the chance, to Austria to do their Explorer Belt. International scouting is not an easy feat, from the long coach journey to Austria (in excess of 24 hours!) to mentoring in the planning of expeditions and providing ‘In-country support’ and dealing with any of the things that might go wrong.
Our young people will have to raise around £3K to go on the trip, and they don’t fund the leaders who all give up their time, holidays and own money to support these young people. So it’s up to us to lead by example and raise funds to enable us to facilitate the event taking place. We as a team have opted for a 'wee' stroll of 22 miles, so any and all support that you can manage is very gratefully appreciated.
