Story
The staff at Newton Abbot Library would love to create a board game group suitable for any age, experience and number of players. Our hope is to build a comprehensive collection of classic and modern games, from Scrabble and dominoes to games such as Ticket to Ride and Splendor. Board games can be expensive and for this reason it would be impossible for the library to run such a group without financial help. That’s where your lovely donations come in! So, how could your contributions positively influence others?
The pandemic forced a sense of isolation on us all, the effects of which have been widespread and detrimental to our wellbeing and the community. A board game group would provide the perfect opportunity to re-build lost connections and to forge new ones, with local retailers and new volunteers for example! Additionally, playing board games offers a multitude of noteworthy benefits.
Playing board games brings people closer, strengthens relationships, and help you meet new people.
Playing board games is exercise for your brain, playing stimulates brain areas that are responsible for memory formation and complex thought processes for all ages.
Board games encourage laughter which helps to decrease stress and is one of the vital ingredients for an enjoyable learning experience and increasing creativity.
Playing board games enhances imagination and self-confidence and offers the perfect opportunity to connect.
Board games are an amazing tool for shy children and timid adults. Playing helps develop a stronger sense of individuality and creativity, leading to greater self-esteem.
Newton Abbot Library is part of Libraries Unlimited, a registered charity responsible for running libraries across Devon and Torbay. Our mission is to bring ideas, imagination, knowledge and creativity to people’s lives and communities and now you can help turn our ideas into reality!
