Fundraising for Woking Hospice
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
JOB DONE JOB DONE JOB DONE !!!!!!!!!
Thanks everyone who has sponsored me and sent me good wishes before the race or on the day - MUCH appreciated! Also everyone who helped along the way – too numerous to mention - but to step into the world of Nick Adams was INVALUABLE - a real inspiration and source of huge knowledge for any long distance swimmer.
I finished 9 seconds under ten hours – 9 hours 59 minutes 51 seconds – which was just five minutes outside my training pace – well pleased!!!
Tina - did a BRILLIANT and sterling job (or should that be Franc) crewing the whole way with help from James and Dorothy in the second half (not forgetting Rolf our great pilot)
You can have a look at photos of this ridiculous fiasco (!) here on flickr:

There is also a short (promise!) video put together by James on youtube:

The whole adventure was a FANTASTIC experience from the day my entry was accepted (14th December 2009) to the crossing of the finish (Ziel) line – 5pm on 8th August 2010
This page stays open for THREE MONTHS giving ample opportunity for giving !! Nearly got my target
Best wishes
Neil
I decided to do this marathon swim last December and entered not entirely sure what it meant - my application was accepted and so I started the journey. 10 weeks to go and I am getting there !!!
I will be swimming along the length of Lake Zurich - a distance of 26km on Sunday 8th August 2010 http://ch.srichinmoyraces.org/veranstaltungen/zhlake
I have decided to support the Woking Hospice as two very dear people were helped through their last days there and I am sure they will be watching over me and cheering me on while I swim.
I am very grateful to everyone who has supported me so far!!
I am training hard and each week increasing the length of my "long swim" . I completed a 10km race with a friend in Weymouth last weekend - which was good training as the water was quite choppy and we had to work hard.
My long swim in the Serpentine is six hours straight the day England played Algeria as I recall . Am planning a seven hour swim this week ...... joy !!!
Just got back from the seven hour swim in the Serpentine - a Heron was on the jetty to meet me at 10.00am (took a pic with my mobile - see my pics to the left) - wasn't a particularly sunny day but still got a red face!
Planning on one last long swim (three and a half weeks to go) - 8 hours that should do it. The Lido is only open during the day from 10.00am to 6.00pm so it will be an "all dayer" !!
In the end bottled it and did a six hour instead but then did an 8 hour session ten days before the race. My left shoulder didn't react too well but soon got used to it !!!
