About National Needlework Archive
Established in 1998 to record textiles in the community, The National Needlework Archive now keeps extensive photographic and documentary records of work throughout the UK. The NNA also keeps publicly accessible libraries, a study collection, and national collections of textiles; as well as conserving internationally important pieces such as the huge ‘Country Wife’ textile mural by Constance Howard made for the Festival of Britain in 1951.
Based at The Old Chapel Textile Centre in Newbury for the last 10 years, the NNA is open to the public, has annual touring exhibitions, a conservation department, and an advice centre.
Visitors to The Centre report it as ‘wonderful’ and ‘inspirational’ and it is one of the top-rated attractions in Newbury. The NNA is largely self-funding but all work is now temporarily stopped and all income has entirely ceased. The NNA is manned by volunteers but our out-goings are still substantial. In order to survive and continue to build on the work of 20 years we need help to get over this difficult time. Please help this small but unique and important heritage charity.
