Story

I'm running the Nike 'Run to the Beat' half marathon on 25th September 2011, and I have decided to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. I have chosen this charity because a couple of my close friends who have been very ill have been helped by the hospital and I think it is a great organisation to raise money for. Here are some ideas from the Great Ormond Street 2011 funding wish list of what your money will go towards and how much is needed for each plan or piece of equipment:

Your support could help to:

- fund an operating theatre in the Morgan Stanley Clinical Building (£5 million)

- fund a six-bed dialysis unit (£500,000)

- cardiac ward (£100,000)

- equip a treatment room in the neurosciences centre (£12,000)

- fund a patient bed in the neurosciences centre (£2000)

Equipment needed:

- a direct radiography system for the X-ray department (£250,000)

- an ultrasound scanner for the neurosurgery department (£102,130)

- magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) monitors (£39,158 each)

- anaesthetic machines (£15,140 each)

- patient vital signs monitors (£7220 each)

- baby scales for use around the hospital (£800 each)

This is the first time I have signed up for a half marathon (or a run of any great length at all) and I have started increasing my running training so that hopefully I can complete the run without collapsing in a heap at the end.

The route starts and finishes at the O2 dome, and the best part is that live music will be played the whole way along the route! I would really appreciate your donations, and please think of just how much your money will make a difference to children who need it (it could alternatively be going to the cats' protection league).

Thanks! x
