Story
My Grandfather, Colin, has suffered with dementia for approximately the last five years. It has been heart breaking for the family to watch his gradual decline knowing there's not a single thing we could do about it. It has been especially hard on my grandmother to have her husband of over 60 years taken away from her bit by bit.
He has now reached the point where he has no short term memory and sometimes doesn't recognise family members.
Sadly this isn't the first time our family has seen a loved one suffer with dementia. My step-mother's mother was also a victim of the horrible condition.
Research in this area is sadly lacking so the family wanted to do our bit to raise even a few pounds to contribute to the cause, in the hope that, one day, stories like this will be a thing of the past.
Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that's the equivalent to one person every three minutes. This September and October Memory Walks will be taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to raise money for a world without dementia. Arm in arm, step by step and pound by pound, we will get there. Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society. So it's the most efficient way to raise money – saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and help us walk for a world without dementia.
