Moroccan Rally 2012
Fundraising for Mercy Corps
Fundraising for Mercy Corps
We are Adam and Alex aka Team Rusty Rhinos
On the 8th of September 2012, our fourth charity rally will begin. Taking us from London to the Sahara desert and then returning.
(For more information on our preparation and progress, check out our web site at http://www.rustyrhinos.com)
The challenge
Departing from London, we'll be travelling through France and Spain, aiming to be in Morocco within 2 days! This is only the start of our challenge as our 1963 Land Rover isn't known for its sporty or comfortable characteristics.
Once in Morocco, we'll be travelling extensively throughout the Sahara and Atlas region in Morocco. We'll be spending some time in the Moroccan controlled disputed Western Sahara territory where we will face soaring temperatures and isolation.
We will be on our own, with no support team or backup of any kind and no other teams. The challenge should take around 4 weeks but we only have half that time to complete the rally, we're expecting to cover up to 6000 miles (10,000 km) on the rally!. Given the age (49 years young) and the speed of the car, this is certainly going to require long days and nights of driving.

Why on earth are we doing this?
Our aim is to raise money for Mercy Corps while having fun exploring the world in a different way. Mercy Corps supports rural communities and herding families through economic, educational and agricultural programmes.
Please visit http://www.mercycorps.org.uk for further information on Mercy Corps.
We hope that you will be generous with your donations, even if you can only afford £1, this will really help us reach our target which we would love to exceed.
It goes without saying, that we also plan on having a great time on this amazing adventure while helping a worthwhile cause.
The car
A 1963 Land Rover that is so old, it is tax exempt! While the Land Rover is a legend off road and it can take quite a beating, make no mistake, the car will be slow and will have none of the comfort features you see in modern cars. We have fitted a stereo and some sporty seats, 2 essential items. Apart from that, the only other creature comfort is a pen holder!
