Story
Dear Family and Friends,
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am raising funds for the Skanda Vale Hospice!
Skanda Vale - The Community of the Many Names of God - is an amazing ashram/monastery in West Wales. I first went as a baby but have now been back alone twice in the past year. It is a long flight from Texas but well worth it!
When I learned about the Skanda Vale Hospice located in Saron, a short drive from the ashram, I could not wait to go visit. The ground floor of the building has been renovated and now provides palliative care to those diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. After spending a day with the patients receiving the treatments (lymphadema treatment, massage, etc) provided by the monks and nuns I did not believe that they could be sick. The patients were all so full of life, talking and laughing and eating, in this bright, warm space dedicated to love and life.
Riding the train from London to Carmarthen I was inspired by the raw, mysterious coastline of Wales. I am now planning to walk the Sponsored Coastal Path Walk to raise funds for the Skanda Vale Hospice since everything offered to the patients is free of charge! In a couple years the first floor of the Hospice will be complete and will provide residential care to those living with a life-threatening illness. I am a nurse here in Texas and would love the opportunity to nurse at a place that honors all of life and provides a space to end the physical existence with dignity and with decreased suffering.
Please help me raise funds for the Skanda Vale Hospice!
Namaste,
Miriam
