I am organising a challenge for a team of people to lift 1,000,000 kilograms (1,000 tonnes) in total through reps of deadlift. The event will take place at Yes Lifestyle Fitness Club in Horsham to raise money for a local animal rescue that needs a new site due to an extensive development project in the area. Below is the story of Holbrook Animal Rescue.

Holbrook Animal Rescue is a family-run charity, and is currently only one of two UK animal charities that are kennel free. Holbrook Animal Rescue has been operating from its current site in Old Holbrook, Horsham, for the past 26 years. But it is now having to move because the north Horsham area - where the animal centre is sited - is earmarked for the building of a new 2,750-house estate.

However the rescue centre is determined to carry on its much-needed work helping to care for stray and unwanted animals. As a charity, we rely on community fundraising to support our efforts to give neglected, abused or unwanted animals a home. Our behaviourists use their specialist training to help train and rehome the animals to their forever homes.

We have launched an appeal for £60,000 to relocate the rescue, and build better facilities for the animals. We predict we will be moving around 2023.
