About Mel Milaap Community Centre
Mel-Milaap Community Centre is a registered charity operating a day-care facility and resource for the elderly and vulnerable in Glasgow. As part of its services, Mel-Milaap provides hot food five days a week which is often the only hot nourishing meal enjoyed by many of the attendees. In line with current Government guidelines, the centre has been closed from Monday 16th March and will remain closed until the Government advises otherwise.
From Monday 6th April, we have been providing hot vegetarian meals three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays). We also continue to provide provision of raw materials to people requiring this service.
The cost of this effort is proportionately very low when compared with the significant benefit provided to the community as it does not include time spent by the volunteers. The cost consists only of:
• Raw materials involved in cooking the meals
• Packaging for the meals
• Reimbursing the drivers for petrol
We are working in partnership with Guru Nanak Sikh Temple Otago Street Glasgow and Glasgow Gurdwara Albert Drive Glasgow. We plan to deliver throughout the Glasgow area, East Renfrewshire, and East Dunbartonshire. We have split this geographical area into 20, and have volunteers covering each area.
In our first week we delivered 350 hot meals to the elderly and vulnerable.
To give an idea as to the value for money provided by your donation, the total cost of preparing 100 meals is approximately £150.00.
