We support children's intensive care to help critically ill children & parents

Story

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page for our cycle trip from Land's End to John O'Groats(LEJOG), aiming to raise money for COSMIC(Children of St. Mary's Intensive Care).

This Summer on the 6th June, having just completed our 3rd year exams at Imperial College Medical School, the four of us (Doug "DTM" Evans, Jonny "Spiderpig" Fisher-Black, Stevan "Stevie J?" Jordan and Ed "Yorkshire!!!" Pickles) will be heading down to Cornwall to begin our LEJOG cycle. Over the following 10 days we will be cycling over 1000 miles from one end of Britain to the other to raise money for COSMIC.

This year has been our first clinical year and all four of us had a placement at St. Mary's, so decided this would be a great charity to raise both money and awareness for. COSMIC raises money for the PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) at St. Mary's. The equipment to support just one bed on the PICU costs more than £100,00 and with the help of charitable sources like COSMIC, the PICU is now an eight bed unit treating over 500 children a year. COSMIC not only helps fund research as well, but also supports the parents of the children in the PICU, not least by providing local accommodation to help them stay close by at a particularly traumatic time. If you would like any more information on the work of either COSMIC or the St. Mary.s PICU visit www.cosmiccharity.com.
