Story

We are now fundraising on a new Justgiving page for 2023 - please donate via https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/medicalequipmentukraine-2023 many thanks! Contact DragonOxfordaidtoUkraine@gmail.com for any questions.

N.B. Please note that the total £ raised is not the amount we still have available to spend - we have already spent £16K between March and September 2022 on urgent medical aid. Many thanks for your donation!

Please see below for further medical details of the supplies sent.

*****

We are a small but tenacious group of Dragon school parents, with the attitude that there is always a way to get things to happen! We have taken this to an extreme, with help from the generous community in Oxford and the Dragon, and using family links in Lviv, we have managed to get 6 loads of Humanitarian Aid to those who really need it in Ukraine.

Unlike larger organisations, we have been able to speak directly with Doctors, Mayors and Directors to find out what is really needed, specifically medical and surgical equipment. We have fundraised, procured and delivered medical equipment to Lviv and across Ukraine, receiving photos and videos of the equipment being used in surgery days after being sent! We have been so successful getting equipment to Surgeons who really need it, that bigger charities such as Médecins Sans Frontieres and the WHO have asked us to source, procure and deliver specialist equipment to Ukraine.

But medical equipment is expensive! With everything we source and buy getting to those who desperately need it, including to the front line and across Ukraine, we know you will be making a difference. But we need your help now!

Everyone who donates is making a genuine difference to those struggling in Ukraine.

Thank you so much for your support.

*****UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2022*****

We have received many generous donations of equipment, but our fundraising enables us to buy equipment that we can't get via donation. Fundraised money has so far been spent as follows:

23/03/22 Pre-owned diathermy machine and disposables for use with it (blades, scalpels, forceps) - this is a machine which generates an electrical current to stop bleeding during surgery and it is normal UK/US practice for every operating theatre to have one, but until we sent one they were sharing one diathermy machine between all the operating theatres. Having an extra machine has dramatically increased their operating capacity £1641.88.

09/04/22 Stryker external fixation kits - rods and screws for managing open fractures (difficult broken bones associated with injury to the soft tissues) £2303.52

09/04/22 Orthopaedic plates and screws (for definitive fixing of fractures), and equipment for neurosurgery, including emergency kits for performing burr holes in the field (holes in the skull to relieve pressure on the brain) £2168.55

04/05/22 Further diathermy machine as described above, with disposable and reusable parts £1991.76

05/05/22 Oxygen concentrators for generating oxygen from room air, wheelchairs and drip stands, operating theatre instrument sets (general/vascular surgery) £2623.00

20/5/22 Celox blood-stopping powder and applicators (for frontline) £509.23

06/06/22 GE Vscan ultrasound machine (for use in diagnosis of internal bleeding and foreign bodies in wounds) £3000

Further GE VScan as above sent July 2022 £3000

Celox blood-stopping powder and applicators (for frontline) July 2022

Our plans to spend further funds raised include more surgical instrument sets (£500 each), fixation systems (£180 each)
