JustGiving fundraisers raise more than £750k for charity at this year’s Rubix VT Brighton Half Marathon

26 February 2024

The Rubix VT Brighton Half Marathon took place over the weekend (Sunday 25 February) with official fundraising partner, JustGiving, helping raise £796,636 for good causes.

JustGiving’s second year as the official fundraising partner for the event saw it increase the amount raised through its platform by 58 per cent on last year. The number of individual fundraising pages on the platform also increased markedly this year, from 864 to 1,359.

Mum of two Karen Patterson was one of more than 8,000 participants to complete the run this year, raising more than £3,380 through JustGiving in support of the neonatal intensive care unit at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The hospital cared for her two sons, Hunter and Jesse who both suffered from complications after their births in 2022 and 2023.

She said: “I can’t thank the wonderful doctors and nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital enough for looking after our little boys. They were amazing and I’m so pleased to have been able to complete the Half Marathon for them and raise £3,389 through my JustGiving page, far more than the £500 I’d originally been aiming for.”

Now in its 34th year, the Brighton Half Marathon has become one of the largest running events in the UK. The route for the half marathon starts and finishes on the beach front and takes in landmarks including The Brighton Palace Pier, The Royal Pavillion, West Pier and Brighton Marina.

Martin Harrigan, Race Director of the Rubix VT Brighton Half Marathon, said: “We are delighted to have JustGiving as our official fundraising partner. The Brighton Half raises vital funds for charities large and small and lots of our runners use the JustGiving platform to help them fundraise for a wide range of fantastic causes.

“The monies raised this year by runners has been truly incredibly and we would like to say a massive well done to everyone for their efforts!”

Pascale Harvie, President and General Manager of JustGiving added: “We’re proud to be the official fundraising partner of the Brighton Half Marathon for the second year running.

“More than 1,350 JustGiving fundraisers took part in the event and collectively they have raised an amazing £796,360, which has already surpassed last year’s total by 58%.

“Congratulations to everyone who took part and on behalf of our charity partners, thank you for raising much needed funds for so many important causes.”
