On the 22nd of July we are aiming to cycle from the Houses of Parliament to the Colliseum in Rome via the Alps (total distance 1984kms) We willl be carrying all our equipment (tents,sleeping bags,spare parts etc). The journey is expected to take 17 days which is an average of 116 kms each day.Training has started in earnest, well for me anyway as i will have turned 47 by the time we leave and my 2 compatriots are both in their early 30's!! I have no doubts we will succeed but i am under no illusion how tough it will be especially when we get to those 'hilly bits!!' Originally we decided to do this for no other reason than to challenge ourselves, however since then i attended a funeral of a friends 14yr old daughter who after a very courageous battle  against cancer passed away in October last year. Having known the parents and Marcie for 5 years this was an incredibly sad day.Marcie was supported by an amazing charity called Sebastian's Action Trust which aims to make life a little bit easier for very sick young children. Having 4 children of my own I can only imagine the pain and suffering the parents went through and I know that when I am struggling with a fully laden bike and my legs are on the verge of giving in I will push on through the pain barrier, and in return I ask you all to please donate very generously to an amazing charity.
