Barcelona Marathon 2019 · 10 March 2019 ·

The charity's three helicopters and four rapid response vehicles operate 365 days a year, with doctors and paramedics on board providing enhanced prehospital care to people across the entire North West region.

Story

As some of you know or may not know  - I live somewhere, semi rural...

In the few years I've lived here, I know of 4  people who have been helped and assisted by the North West Air Ambulance.

  • The first had a heart attack on his farm
  • The second had a livestock trailer reverse over him
  • The third had a heart attack at the wheel of her car
  • And the fourth ended up going through a drystone wall in his car

I also know of at least three other instances where the NWAA has flown in to farms and fields around here and carried the patients to the hospitals in either Blackburn or Preston accordingly. So - statistically, if I know 7 instances where the NWAA has been involved, it's pretty fair to say one day - it might be me, getting carried off to either Blackburn or Preston hospital in the back of the helicopter.

And that just wouldn't do, would it?

So - with this in mind, this year I am running the Barcelona Marathon to raise funds for the NWAA. This is my fourth marathon - previously I've power minced myself around Manchester, Turin, Milan - I've run for several causes close to my heart over the few years I've been popping on the leotard and running shoes and with your support and kindness, I've raised a little to help out in whatever way I can for The Samaritans, The Connection at St Martins in the Field, and Alcohol Research along the long, winding and merry way of the 26.2 miles that is a marathon distance.

I'm hoping with your support, to raise £100 for the NWAA. Or maybe if you're all feeling incredibly generous yet again, who knows where it will end up going...£150? £200?

Show Your Support

I've been at it yet again - battering the treadmill in preparation for March 10 and its still as hard as ever so come on people -  for the price of a bottle of wine, or a few pints, or this weekends takeaway - why not make a difference and help the NWAA keep on doing what they do by giving what you can and showing your support. It also makes a difference to me too on race day to know that someone has put money in the pot.

You can give here using the JustGiving page, or if you're technically minded - text BCNA53 then add your amount - £1, £5, £10 - to 70070

Don't forget to select GiftAid which adds a little more to the pot for the NWAA

Support the cause

So come on - help others help others and please show your love and support to the NWAA, and if you can make a donation small, medium or large that will be greatly appreciated.

Most of all - on March 10, when you're all in bed, lying in, staying warm - spare a thought for me giving it the beans on the mean streets of Barcelona and support your favourite, local, leotard wearing fat lad.
