Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. We are excited to have married each other on 3 October 2020 at St Birinus Catholic Church. However, due to the current restrictions we weren’t able to invite many of the people we would have wanted to. Instead, we will be inviting our family and friends to a reception in Poland in 2021. In place of wedding gifts, we would like to invite people to donate to our chosen charity.
Light for the Blind is a small charity that runs five hospices in Tamil Nadu, India. The charity is run by Father Thomas Rathappillil, and directly supports the dying destitute of this region in southern India. Locals in need are admitted without regard to caste, colour, age, sex or creed.
The five hospices provide protected accommodation, a soft bed to lie on and basic medicine, with a proper bath and three square meals every day. Over the last five years, the hospices have looked after more than 1,100 people who have died in their care. With this simple care, more than 4,200 people have recovered and have gone back to their places of choice.
Through its founder, Father Thomas, a priest of the Diocese of Leeds, the charity has close links to Catholic churches in England. This includes Michael’s church that he attended with his family in Abingdon. When Magda and Michael decided to choose charity donations in place of gifts, Father Thomas’ charity was the obvious choice as we knew we could rely on him to use your donations wisely.
We’ve chosen the Justgiving platform to host this fundraiser as it is a simple and secure way to donate, and importantly allows the charity to easily claim 25% tax back on your donation via the Gift Aid scheme. Once you donate, they’ll send your money to the charity straight away, so you can be confident your donation goes where it should.
