HALF HEELED MARATHON

HALF HEELED MARATHON · 22 August 2015
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well the time of year has come again where I start to think what charity I will fundraise for. At first it was suggested by my mother that I fundraise for a charity that has helped my brother for over thirty years.
Well since then a lot has happened which has had a big impact on my family so for this reason I have decided to fundraise for MacMillan nurses.
Again I will be wearing high heels as it is a method that has proved successful for the last five years and is guaranteed to get attention as it is a unique method.
I have decided that the fundraising will take place on Saturday 15th August. I have decided that I will attempt to
complete the distance of a half marathon.
For those who do not know how far this is I will be walking 13.1094
miles (21.0975 kilometres). For
technical reasons I will actually be walking slightly further by around quarter
of a mile. This is actually for my convenience. I had originally organised to do the walk the following weekend on the 22nd but this had to be postponed to the weekend before due to circumstances out of my control.
I will be wearing a pair of four inch high heels which have a block heel for stability. I have actually worn the same heels for 31 days without a break and they are OK to walk in. On the other hand I never attempted to walk over 13 miles in them non-stop so I expect I will suffer at the end of the day.
My only concerns are blisters and sweaty feet. As it will be summer I will be wearing them
bare footed. Although i will be going bare foot I will also be carrying a pair of white sports socks in case I get problems with blisters. This will be a last resort as I will also have plasters on my little toes. The last thing I want is my feet getting too warm in the middle of summer.
I was considering buying a pair of sandals but I don’t want
any unnecessary expense. My only expense
will be my fancy dress outfit. The
outfit will consist of a green charity T-Shirt paired with green leggings and a green skirt plus of course the black shoes. The green skirt was kindly provided by my wife Wendy.
I will be starting from Mumbles pier and walking to the Civic centre and then back to the pier and I will then walk back in the direction of the Civic centre and finish at the car park at the bottom of Sketty lane. I expect the walk to take around between 8 to 10 hours.
I will also have a collection bucket with me to collect from the public. A street collection permit will be applied for in the run up to the walk.
