Story
On the Winter Solstice, 21st December 2014, MA&Y will be raising money for the charity 'SHELTER' to help support the homeless and vulnerable this festive period. All proceeds raised from participants' entry and further contributions / online donations will be added to the final total.
To mark this special event we will be hosting a Yoga challenge for participants to perform 108 sun salutations. This is extremely challenging (mentally and physically) and will take approximately 2 hours to complete. Participants do not have to complete all 108 sun salutations. Even undertaking a small segment is a tremendous achievement and the primary focus of this event is to help money for a very worthwhile cause.

Start Time - 3.30pm

The background behind the magical number 108 -
The number’s significance is open to interpretation, so this is not definitive. 108 has long been considered a sacred number in Hinduism and yoga. Renowned mathematicians of Vedic culture viewed 108 as a number of the wholeness of existence. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of ritual significance. According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body.
MA&Y are offering a yoga mala of 108 Sun Salutations on 21st December 2014 @ MA&Y Wimbledon Park.
