This is my story:

About a year ago my dad was a happy health 66 year old man. He had just retired and had never smoked or really drank, except the odd social drink. We haven't suffered from any serious illness in our distant family, not really. He began to suffer with a pain starting in his back and ending up around his front and vise versa. At first he thought it was a type of colic or trapped wind. He ignored it for a week or two, but it still remained. He began going to the doctors, they did test after test. With no results. This went on for months, so dad decided to pay for private care, maybe they would give him something the nhs couldn't. Scan after xray after blood test, nothing was coming back. We, his family, were getting worried by now as his pain was unbareable, most of the time he was doubled up with it. Still he was at the doctors almost every other day, and when he couldn't get there, he would call them down. Day after day and week after week, they found nothing. Nobody knew what to do anymore with this mysterious illness. It eventually came to the point that the doctors thought he was making it up, because he wasn't one for showing pain, until he got back home. My mother spent most of her time, in those few months, rubbing his back, trying to give him some relief. I can remember the day, it was at the end of August, and I had just come back off a weeks camping trip, I had the phone call that I will never forget. My elder sister told me that they had recieved some results and it looked like a tumour on his pancreas. My world crashed around me, but I carried on as normal, hoping it wasn't that bad. When we were told that he had months rather than years, I couldn't believe it, my dad the strong, intelligent man I had always know, was going to be leaving us early. Finally the doctors told us that he could of had it for about 18months before the pain had started! This was just such a shock, we never heard of this before. That's the problem with this cancer, even before you have been diagnosed with it, it's too late. We need to make more people aware of the dangers and what to look out for. We need more funding for the charity, so they can save more lives. This Is why I am doing this, and want to be sponsored, so no-one else has to go through this!! Please help me to raise as much as I can, I can only do it with your help. Thank you xxx.

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.
